When I am asked by a friend or client about healthy eating, I often get a tad nervous. As an ACE Personal Trainer, it is not within my scope of practice to offer nutrition counseling services or refer specific food choices. With that in mind, I was very excited when ACE offered a lecture series to become a Certified Nutrition Specialist. After reading a synopsis of what I would be learning, I quickly decided that this would be a wonderful opportunity.
While I need to remain within the confines of my scope of practice, I am able to provide nutrition information from professional, credible sources. Becoming knowledgeable of the services I can provide is exhilarating and reassuring. Our industry’s clients need to have factual sources of nutritional advice. This country is facing a health crisis, and fitness alone won’t help us get healthier. We need fitness professionals to provide factual, scientifically proven information to their clients and personal networks. Credible information is the first step in this very complicated and multifaceted problem.
I am very excited to be learning how I can bring a wealth of information to my clients and my community. In fact, as soon as I have passed my certifications this month, I will be seeking nutritional education and outreach opportunities in my local community. I have many ideas and practical suggestions to help my hometown get healthier.
If you or someone you know would like to bring in a Fitness Nutrition Specialist for a nutrition presentation, I would love the opportunity!
