One of my favorite gifts this year? The Fit Bit.
I admit, I was skeptical. I tend to be more of a natural health gal, using my intuition to guide me in matters of health and nutrition. I like to walk outside when possible. I don’t eat when I’m not hungry. I don’t push myself past pain during workouts. So, the idea of a contraption measuring my heart rate and steps (not to mention sleep??!!) 24/7 brought out my cynical side. For years, I’ve disliked how fitness monitors can discourage spinning, strength training or yoga because they don’t add up in steps. Despite all of these little argumentative voices in my head, I still wondered if I would actually benefit from owning this gadget.
After a month of wearing my new orange accessory, I am hooked. I love the immediate gratification of each hike with my dog, even if he’s going at a snail’s pace. I love to encourage my friends with “daily goal” challenges. I love to walk into the grocery store and just wander the aisles without any guilt that I am wasting time. Every time I volunteer to walk dogs at the Humane Society, I log in at least 6-7,000 steps! Win-win!
I also really like the dietary support with the fit bit app. I’m currently using this system to drop some of my Christmas cookie gain…oops! As for that progress, I will write another blog about weight loss soon. :-/
Overall, I would absolutely recommend a fitness monitor for anyone who needs to become more self-aware of their actual movement per day. This could help you take your fitness to that next level!
